Cross Connection Cabinet Cabinet XCNR1 is a flexible heavy duty exterior distribution cabinet designed to meet and surpass the requirements of Railtrack Specification for Lineside Cabinets Without Climate Control, SP/FTN
(D&D)/013 and British Telecom Specification for Construction of External Connection Cabinets LN413. Typically providing connection facilities for up to 208 pairs of incoming cable when using Mondragon VX terminations. The flexibility is provided by the incorporation of a combination of industry standard and purpose specific mountings. The latter being capable of being interchanged and replaced at will, ensuring compatibility with future requirements and practices, details of these is provided in separate sections below. Use of high chromium, corrosion resistant steels throughout the construction, provides an operational life expectancy in excess of 30 years with limited maintenance. Weather protection exceeds the requirements of BS EN 60529:IP55

Cabinet Construction
Cabinet is manufactured from 3CR12 chrome steel, measuring 580x500x1805mm (WDH) and of all welded construction. All joints and larger panels (e.g. Sides) are reinforced for mechanical strength and resistance to vibration. Typically the finish is polyester powder colour BS4800 00A05 (Storm grey) and is provided for decorative purposes.

Cabinet Features, External
Externally the cabinet offers no external fixings or similar points for vandal attack. Top incorporates a pitched 'pent roof' to discourage use as a seating point. Access is provided via two doors fitted front and rear measuring 495x1520mm. These doors may be opened 180º, or stayed at 90º and are secured by three standard quarter turn locks, using an 8mm triangular key. Options are available to replace one or more of these locks with an alternative security device as required.
Hinges are of stainless steel and are mounted on the same cabinet side, allowing cabinets to be mounted side by side, or adjacent to fixed obstacles and still permit full opening of the doors.
Doors are electrically bonded to the cabinet shell, ventilated top and bottom and feature drain points and internal document pockets. Door aperture measures 460x1480mm. 16mm brass earth stud is provided at the base.

Cabinet Installation
Caution. The cabinet weighs 120Kg empty. Extreme caution should be used when moving the unit by hand. Lifting should be done by staying the doors open and passing a fabric lifting straps through the case. Base is pre-drilled and reinforced to suit the standard Small Apparatus Case Base- Concrete BRSSC32. Alternately a prepared concrete base, incorporating suitable fixings may be used (see general dimensional details for mounting positions). A pre-cut sealing gasket to suit the cabinet footprint is supplied, providing an external seal for the plinth.

Strength and Security
This cabinet has a size, structural design and construction of a pattern known to pass British Telecom specification LN413 Specification of Performance for Distribution Cabinets impacts of upto 5000 joules and Department of Transport specifications for Structural Performance of Roadside Electrical Control Cabinets for resonant vibration. Cabinet XC/NR has been inspected and tested by Austin Taylor for general security to Austin Taylor specification S1011: Degrees of Vandal Protection and is believed to exceed security level of VP5.

Configuration Options
The cabinet is designed as a flexible housing to suit both current and future needs. It accommodates this flexibility by providing for alternative preconfigured and interchangeable mountings to suit
requirements. Other configurations are also easily accommodated depending upon requirements. The modular concept of the mountings offers:- reduced costs and installation damage by using standardised factory preconfigured modules, fitting the units on site and simplifies subsequent removal and replacement of equipment with minimal disruption. Some of these options are detailed below:-

Cross Connect 208Pair
Both sides of the cabinet are fitted with two asymmetric width backboards manufactured from high chrome steel, each capable of handling up to 52 pairs. The principle difference between the two is the provision of an extra cable management duct on the broader board. Both boards may be mounted either biased to the left or right of the cabinet opening. The boards are equipped with two lengths of standard 5 mm deep DIN rail of length 1200mm to suit terminals. Between the terminal rails on each board is a jumpering field are a total of six jumper rings 38A and apertures to enable fore and aft jumpering. Outer edge of the board contains lengths of standard 1x2 UPVC Betaduct cable channel (both edges on the wider board). Facility exists to mount a standard 19” pattern jumper bar across the top of the two boards.

Cross Connect 104Pair
Both sides of the cabinet are fitted with two asymmetric width backboards manufactured from high chrome steel. Both boards may be mounted either biased to the left or right of the cabinet opening.
The wider boards are equipped with two lengths of standard 5 mm deep DIN rail of length 1200mm to suit terminals. Between the terminal rails on each board is a jumpering field featuring a total of
six jumper rings 38A and apertures to enable for and aft jumpering. Outer edge of the board contains lengths of standard 1x2 UPVC Betaduct cable duct. The narrow board provides facilities to mount terminal rails, cable ducting and special purpose equipment to specific requirements Facility exists to mount a standard 19” pattern jumper bar across the top of the two boards.

IDC Cross Connect 1500Pair
Cabinet is fitted front and back with a total of six off 52 way frame mountings to suit IDC type 10 pair modules.

Testing
A sample cabinet has been tested by Cape Engineering, Warwick, a UKAS approved test house for testing to the requirements of Railtrack Specification for Lineside Cabinets Without Climate Control, SP/FTN(D&D)/013. Initial test report results:- Vibration test to Railtrack Specification for Lineside Cabinets Without Climate Control, SP/FTN (D&D)/013- Pass. No visible damage or degradation. Testing to BS EN 60529:- First numeral 5: Pass. Trace of dust penetration none within active zones of enclosure when tested to category 2. Second numeral 5: Pass. No water ingress.

Railtrack Certificate of Acceptance
Railtrack Certificate of Acceptance No:PA05/02740 Issue: 3
Scope of Acceptance: XCNR1 cabinet may be used to provide an IP55 non-climate controlled trackside accomodations for telecommunications copper cable terminations on approved termination practices.
