Elastomeric Lab Splice
SPL-LAB-6
SPL-LAB-12
This lab splice is ideal for making temporary fibre connections, since it can be disassembled and reused hundreds of times.
To install the splice for instrument testing, simply insert a cleaved pigtail from an OTDR or power meter to the cleaved unconnectorized fibre. Excellent for both multimode and singlemode fibres. The housing receives 125um to 140um cladding diameters.
If cared for properly, the splice can be used hundreds of times.
Multiple colours aid in tracking used and unused splices
Installation Instructions for temporary splicing of fibres:
- Strip coating from fibres and cleave to 6-9mm.
- Clean the cleaved fibre ends using alcohol and wipes
- Apply a small amount of optical matching gel onto the fibre end and insert the first fibre into the splice so that the cleaved end is in the centre of the part.
- Apply a small amount of optical matching get onto the fibre end and complete the splice by inserting the second fibre from the opposite end until the two fibres mate together in the centre.
